Meet Kirby Reed Samuell II
The results are in, and while my campaign for Truro Township Trustee did not end in victory this time, I want to express my deep gratitude to every voter, volunteer, and supporter who believed in a vision of local government built on transparency, inclusion, and accountability.
This election made one thing abundantly clear: when endorsements and influence come before honest evaluation, democracy loses some of its light. Before the primary, I completed the Franklin County Democratic Party’s full screening process and was later informed that the endorsement would go to another candidate because “she had run before.” Only afterward did I learn that the Party had already extended its endorsement to the incumbent Democrat, Dennis Nicodemus, well before the screening even began.
My frustration is not about personal loss, it is about process. Endorsements should be earned on merit, record, and readiness to lead, not on seniority or insider familiarity. The “old boy network” approach to politics is exactly what keeps citizens feeling unheard and unrepresented. When the Party sends out sample ballots across the county with only endorsed names highlighted, it can predetermine outcomes before the people have a fair chance to weigh all their options.
Still, I remain encouraged. Toni Kleckli’s victory shows that voters can and do embrace change when they are given a real choice. I congratulate her sincerely for her hard-fought win over Chris Long and look forward to seeing new energy and perspective on the Board.

have pledged their vote!
As for me, this campaign was just the beginning. I intend to remain deeply involved in township affairs and to continue advocating for honest, open, and resident-centered governance. Whether that means seeking appointment or running for Truro Fiscal Officer next year, or more likely, pursuing a trustee seat again in two years when Chairman Pat Mahaffey’s long tenure comes up for election, my commitment to transparency and accountability in Truro Township will not waver.
We can do better. And together, I believe we will.
